Dedicated to enhancing public access television within the City of Bowie and its surrounding communities.
Bowie has grown from a small railroad stop to the largest municipality in Prince George’s County, and the fifth most populous and third-largest city by area in the state of Maryland. In 2014, CNN Money ranked Bowie 28th on its Best Places to Live in America list.
Bowie residents can view BCMC programming and content on Verizon FiOS Channel 11 and Xfinity Channel 77. Check out BCMC’s Viewing Schedule for more information on programming content and airings.
Your business name and logo should be recognized as an important, integral part of our community. The number of Bowie and Prince George’s County households accessible through BCMC is approximately 75,000, and some of our shows also have their own YouTube channels and Facebook pages. So, anyone with cable TV or phone, tablet, and/or computer with internet access can watch! Your business will benefit by leaps and bounds by sponsoring BCMC, as promotional spots are placed at the end of the selected program. Each spot is produced by BCMC in cooperation with the sponsor and will include company name, logo, and website. As another option, sponsors can have an on-camera appearance featuring a company representative, if desired, explaining how your business supports BCMC.
Please keep in mind that BCMC is here to serve the public, as we want to engage in and empower greater citizen participation in the process of producing local television programming. BCMC serves as a one-stop community outreach and information resource utilized and watched by many in our community. From educational programs to health-related series, candidate debates, or even coverage of local parades, BCMC has clearly demonstrated our support for our local producers and viewers. We are here to serve the public, and we want to engage and empower greater citizen participation in the process of producing local television programming.
Local Access television stations have nearly all the same technical needs and requirements as our commercial counterparts and our services are strictly non-commercial and non-profit. However, our budgetary challenges are much greater than those of commercial television, as we must train and equip, not only staff but all qualified residents of the City of Bowie that wants to produce television programming.
The size and budgetary abilities of Community Access operations across the country vary, and since the late 1990s, BCMC has managed to provide the best possible service with the resources available. A daunting task on severely limited funds. So while traditional methods of funding PEG Access exist, such as government grants, additional financial support of BCMC is needed.
Investing in Public Access is simply re-investing in your community and helping provide the opportunity for greater achievement for all.
